While this is not part of the Corvair restoration, I include it as many people replace simple switches without realizing how easy it is to fix them.
These switches are supposed to raise and lower the power windows on my 1988 BMW 325ic. Replacement switches are about $40 in the USA, not available locally. After months of occasional contacts, they had stopped working altogether.
The switch easily snaps out of the console, then comes apart by lifting the casing around 4 hooks in the sides. Once apart, you can see how the contacts are intended to slide down the side and make contact at the bottom. This requires a good electrical contact.
So I cleaned and aligned the contacts with 360 paper and needle-nose pliers, then added a coat of electrical grease and reassembled.
